Repeat Prescriptions
Ordering a repeat prescription
There are different ways to request a repeat prescription, please choose the best option for you.
Please allow us 72 hours (three working days), to process your prescription request. In some cases, it can take up to seven days to issue a prescription for example:
- Where a medication has been previously issued as a one-off prescription
- Where the repeat series has ended and a medication review is required
- Where a pill check is needed
- For some Controlled Medications, such as methodone
We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
The NHS App
Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.
Use Online Services
The easiest way to order your prescription is by using our online services.

About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
In Person
You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription and ticking the required medications or you can collect a repeat prescriptions form from our Dispensary to complete.
You can ask someone else to complete the form on your behalf or submit a handwritten request which must include your name, date of birth and the requested medication.
By Post
You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice.
If you're unable to collect your prescription from the surgery, please include a stamped, addressed envelope for return by post. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.
Medication for travel
If you need medication for a long-term health condition, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, you may be able to get an extra supply of medication to cover time away.
Medication queries
Please get in touch with the practice to raise a query about your medication.
Dispensary
Our dispensary is open from 8:30am to 1pm and from 2:30pm to 6pm.
We are a dispensing practice and can dispense directly to patients who live more than a mile from a community pharmacy.
If you have a prescription query, you can leave a voicemail message on 01869 362 944
- The mailbox is checked regularly and we aim to get back to you within 3 working days.
- Please do not leave urgent messages on this line.
Medication reviews
If you are being prescribed repeat medication you will be asked to speak to a member of our team at least once a year to review your medication – a notification for this will appear on your repeat slip.
When asked, please book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Medicines which require monitoring
Some medications including methotrexate and leflunamide require regular blood test monitoring and this will have been discussed with you when you started to take it.
If you are late or miss a blood test, we may not be able to prescribe these medications for safety reasons so please ensure that you keep up to date with the required blood tests.

Prescriptions charges and exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.
Please visit the NHS website for the latest Prescription Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Restricted prescribing list - Over the counter (OTC) treatments
We do not prescribe medications which can be purchased OTC for conditions which:
- Are considered to be self-limiting and will heal of their own accord
- Are suitable for self-care and for which medical help is not necessary and can be effectively given by a local pharmacy using an over the counter medicine, these include (but are not limited to)coughs, colds, sore throat, head lice, indigestion, mild dry skin, sunburn, warts and verrucae, mouth ulcers, nappy rash, mild hay fever, dandruff, diarrhoea (in adults), and athletes foot
These over the counter treatments are usually available at a reasonable cost and are often cheaper than the cost of a prescription.
