Prescribing Policy

Our policy is to prescribe for up to 28 days at a time:

• Many medicines are packaged in 28-day packs
• A 28 day cycle allows us to co-ordinate medication issue and medication reviews, saving time for both patients and GPs
• Prescriptions issued on a 28-day cycle don’t always need an appointment but do ensure regular contact with our team in case there are any concerns, ensuring that good patient care is maintained
• It minimises wastage of medicines

There are exceptions and some medications are prescribed for shorter periods and others, such as HRT and the contraceptive pill may be prescribed for longer periods in accordance with best practice.
