RSV Vaccinations for older patients

In addition to seasonal flu and Covid vaccinations, this year NHS England are recommending that eligible patients are protected from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

RSV is a common virus which affects the airways and lungs and can cause symptoms similar to a cold such as cough, sneezing, sore throat and runny nose.  It can also cause shortness of breath and lead to pneumonia and there is no specific treatment for it.  Whilst most patients will recover, it can be more severe in older adults.

A single dose of the vaccine will boost your protection and does not need to be repeated each year.

Everyone turning 75 on or after 1 September 2024 will be offered the vaccine, and this year the vaccine is also being offered to patients already aged 75 to 79 on or after 1 September as part of a catch up programme.

Your vaccination at Montgomery-House Surgery

We are inviting eligible patients to attend a one-off Saturday clinic for their RSV vaccination.

Our clinic will be held at the surgery on 30 November and will be staffed by our GPs and nurses.

This will be a walk in clinic and there is no need to book an appointment or to confirm whether or not you are able to attend.  However, to manage the flow of patients, we are inviting patients to attend during specific timeslots.  If we have a mobile number for you we will send a text with your timeslot, if we don’t have a mobile number, we will write to you with your time.

There is no need for you to arrive at the start of the timeslot – for the clinics to run smoothly we need a steady flow of patients so please come at any point during that slot.

If you are unable to make the time you are offered, you can arrive between 8.30am and 12.30pm on the day but may have a longer wait.

RSV Vaccinations for pregnant patients

Patients who are more than 28 weeks pregnant are also eligible for the vaccine, which will be discussed and co-ordinated as part of their routine ante-natal care.
