Cervical Screening

Cervical screening (commonly known as your smear test) is a test designed to identify your risk of cervical cancer. Cervical screening checks the health of your cervix and helps find any abnormal changes before they can turn into cancer.
All women aged 25 to 64 are invited by letter to attend a cervical screening appointment, which will normally be at your GP surgery. It is not a test for cancer, it is a test to help prevent cancer.
Your first invitation for a smear can be up to six months before you turn 25, between 25 to 49 you are invited every three years and between 50 to 64 you are invited every five years. Anyone aged 65 or older will only be invited if a recent test was abnormal.
Please try not to put off your cervical screening – it’s one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer.
If you have received your invitation to book your cervical screening, please call our patient services team on 01869 362922 between 2pm-5pm on any weekday to arrange an appointment with one of our nursing team.
